Speacial DAY at the School up North (Northwestern U.) -- no lesson at the Chicago GSB this week.

The BLAST Competition Team invites you to attend the Third Annual Northwestern University Ballroom Classic on Saturday, April 12. Hundreds of students from schools across the Midwest are coming to participate. The evening session beginning at 6 PM will feature showcases, social dancing and competition, and you are welcome to join!

Watch: The evening will feature performances by Boomshaka, the LadyCats Dance Team and professional dancers Matt and Ula Rivers.


Dance: There will be plenty of opportunities to dance with other spectators and competitors from around the Midwest. Bring your shoes and prepare for a good time!

Compete: If you are interested in joining the competition, you can! For only $5 plus the cost of admission you can participate in our Fun Dance events throughout the evening including salsa, west coast swing, Argentine tango, lindy hop, hustle, merengue and polka.

42nd Chicago Spring Festival

Dance and Music of Eastern Europe and the Mediterrenean

at the I-House, The University of Chicago

 

It is happening this weekend - the 42nd Spring Festival of Balkan and Eastern European music and dance. Below I will highlight the guest musicians, performermers and teachers.

I want to personally invite you to the main event - the Concert and Dance Party on Saturday from 7pm. It will feature the groups from St. Sofia Church - Metronia and Nashencheta, Ensemble Horo, my dance group Ensemble Balkanski igri, orchestras Izgrev, Pirin and Balkanski ritmi, the famous tambura player Rumen Shopov, the clarinet virtuoso Peter Vodenov, and others.

The admission to this outstanding showcase of Balkan folklore is $15 for students ($25 regular). Chefs from around the Balkans will prepare mouthwatering buffet dinner of homecooked specialties form the region. The dinner is $10 and requires reservations.

On Saturday and Sunday during the day, some of the best teachers of Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbian, Rrom, Turkish and Romanian dances will have workshops. Daniela Ivanova will have two singing workshops. Musicians will offer workshops for clarinet, accordeon, tambura, tapan.

All events will take place at the International House of the University of Chicago.
